  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, cubed Choose a ripe, sweet watermelon for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice Fresh lemon juice provides the best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to taste; can substitute with honey or agave syrup.
  • 2 cups water For a fizzy twist, use sparkling water.
  • Ice cubes For serving.
  • Mint leaves Optional, for garnish.

Preparation

  • Blend the fresh watermelon in a blender until smooth.
  • Strain the watermelon juice through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, discarding the pulp if desired.
  • Add the fresh lemon juice, sugar, and water to the pitcher.
  • Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar or lemon juice as needed.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with mint leaves if desired.

Notes

This drink is best served chilled. It pairs well with light summer meals and can be used as a cocktail mixer by adding vodka or rum. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and stir before serving.
